Park advisory: Trail closures

Park Advisory: Trail Closures
Date: 07/12/02

Several unmarked trails beyond Sentinel Hill and the Pine Basin region remain closed following the recovery of unidentified human remains earlier this season. The closure is precautionary and allows investigators, park staff, and environmental teams to assess both public safety and site conditions.

Head Ranger Michelle Hill confirmed that no immediate threat to visitors has been identified at this time. However, the northern sector will remain under controlled review while survey teams document ground conditions, communications irregularities, and the proximity of the recovery site to nearby monitoring equipment.

Field teams have been rotating through the area daily, with temporary survey lines, equipment stations, and marked grids established along older service routes. Visitors may notice additional ranger presence near access points and should follow all posted guidance.

Temporary survey markers placed near the Sentinel Hill access route.

Visitor access is restricted to clearly marked routes. All taped grids, unmarked side paths, and temporary field installations should be avoided. Entry into sealed areas, particularly after dusk, is prohibited under park regulations and may interfere with ongoing investigation and analysis.

Visitors traveling near Sentinel Hill and Deer’s Flats are asked to report damaged signage, unfamiliar markers, or repeated radio interference to the nearest ranger station. Older route names may appear on copied maps or temporary field materials and should not be treated as current public trail designations.

Additional notices may be issued as survey conditions change.
